If you are prone to emotional eating try finding another way to dealing with stress. The most helpful way to lose weight would be some form of exercise. Boxercise classes are a great way to bust stress and release any negative emotions.
Go for a long walk with your favorites tunes, take a hot bath, call a friend, play with your pet if you have one. All these alternatives will work better than attacking the ice cream.
