Hello there
Its actually quite important to get the right kind of carbs into your system (although many people do love the Atkins diet). I wrote an article about this recently -
"Good Carbs" vs "Bad Carbs". The good carbs are basically unprocessed, natural foods like brown rice and fruit.
The foods you mentioned:
Rice - ok if you use brown or wild rice
Potato - try to eat sweet potato instead, its much more nutritious
Popcorn - ok but go for the unsweetened type
Cereal is a great way to start the day, but go for wholegrain cereals rather than the processed or refined brands. Anything that has been manufactured into an unnatural shape or color is probably not good for you!
I eat sushi all the time but I tend to choose the sashimi dishes (no rice). Some restaurants will serve sushi on brown rice if you ask, but not many. A little white rice is not going to hurt anyway, just don't overdo it.
Hope this helps!
