In a new book, the 'Flavor Point Diet', Dr David Katz reveals these findings...
"We stay hungry longer the more diverse the flavors in a meal or snack", said Katz, a professor at Yale School of Medicine. "If flavors are thoughtfully distributed, we fill up on fewer calories."
This explains why, for instance, people can eat a holiday meal to the point of feeling unpleasantly full, yet still have room for dessert!
Nothing new there you might say! An AP-Ipsos poll
found that 80% of buyers check food labels, but only 44% of us actually
use that knowledge to make a decision!
Other interesting points from the survey:
-- 15% more women check labels than men
-- Married men are more likely to check (76% vs. 65% for singles)
-- Younger people are most health-conscious, and 39% of them look straight to the calories before anything else.
It turns out that healthy eating won't just reduce your risk of cancer, it will also help you keep your 20-20 vision for longer!
Recent studies show that the same antioxidants that reduce your risk of cancer will also reduce 'Age-related Macular Degeneration', the condition that affects your eyesight as you grow older.
So if you want to lose weight, make sure you keep eating those antioxidants or you might not be able to see that new slim body of yours!
I've always thought that reducing stress and
getting a good sleep were an important part in any diet. Well now a new study
agrees!
Dr Sanjay Patel found in a recent study that women who slept less than 5 hours a night were 32% more likely to gain a significant amount of weight (33lbs or more) than women who slept 7 hours a night.
So there you have it - the perfect excuse for that sleep-in on a Sunday morning!
